Chickens for sale, going cheep today!

I played truant from French lessons today and went to the monthly market in Saintes as it was a nice sunny warm morning. I had convinced a friend to join me (she didn't need much persuading to bunk off lessons!) and we had coffee, bought some plants and watched people buying chickens.
There were all colours of chickens for sale as well as guinea fowl, geese, ducks and rabbits. Chickens are picked up in bunches of about four either by the legs as in the photo, or by the wings.
My friend wanted to buy a goose, but she just got her husband a new pair of slippers instead!
