Barnett Ranch Preserve

Today's Phantom flight was over the Barnett Ranch Preserve. I pretty much stayed in the parking lot and flew around for a view while Bev and Suesse hiked a bit up the road to catch some sites and smells.

I have footage of them -- although they look like dots, and a nice self portrait as I was coming in for a landing, but I chose this overall view of the preserve and beyond to show the general scenery of the area -- from about 300 feet above ground level.

Barnett Ranch Preserve is a historic 728-acre cattle ranch now owned by the County of San Diego. It is part of the original property that was once the home of Augustus and Martha Barnett—the couple who commissioned the Ramona Town Hall to be built. The preserve is open daily from 8am to sunset and is accessed off San Vicente Road at Deviney Lane. It features four miles of multiuse trails that meander through old oak groves and a wildflower field. This is rattlesnake and mountain lion country, so hikers need to be alert and read the information signs before setting out.

Small ponds that fill up after the rains add interest to this hike. The trails are wide and well marked. There is a staging area for equestrians, and it is also open to bicyclists. There are no restrooms in the preserve.
