The "double arrow" symbol used to be the logo of British Rail. Of course, these days there is no British Rail (more's the pity) but you still see the sign everywhere, pointing the way to railway stations.
Thinking about it though, doesn't it seem a bit odd that a railway station run by Network Rail, where GNER, Virgin and ScotRail trains operate, is identified by a logo for an organisation that no longer exists?
