To bloom or not to bloom?

A few days ago I released this from its solitary confinement in a gift box, forgotten about since Christmastime. Judging by the desiccated petals in the box, it must have flowered in the dark - maybe a desperate cry for help? Since it's come into the light it's doing something, but I'm not sure quite what - is that a red flower about to bloom again, or just another leaf, of a reddish colour? Will keep an eye on it!
