Town full of heroes
It's not the photo that makes today; it's the story.
Today I have had the honour of commentating at the Blackpool Marathon and Half Marathon.
I have met the most incredible group of people and got gto share their amazing stories.
There was the man who cycled 40+ miles from Bolton to run the marathon before cycling home again. He is in training for an Ironman: Seven years ago he was told a dibilitating back condition would mean walking would be almost impossible!
Fast forward to the young people running for Donate Life, to promote organ donation. Cue the tears as I thought about the 4 people who can now see because my Mam donated her corneas.
I can't promote organ donation enough. Please register if you haven't already done so.
The good news is you don't have to give any money so everyone can afford it.
And you don't give anything at all in your lifetime. It is, however, the ultimate in Gift Aid.
The amazing young man who this time last year weighed in at 19 stone 4 pounds. Today he completed his first marathon at TEN stones.
Try to picture that: a year ago he was carrying around TWICE his current weight!
If you watch the London Marathon next Sunday, look out for a man in a red astronaut costume. Today was his final training run before he attempts the world record for running a marathon dressed as an astronaut.
Then there is Ben. He ran for 6 cancer charities. His is running 6 marathons in 6 months and is calling his challenge Ben's Bowel Movements.
The reason is because he is living with terminal bowel cancer.
Cue more tears when he said it could be worse: it might be one of his children.
I have been unbelievably lucky today to be in a town full of heroes.
Have a great week.
