Maison de la Reine

Within the gardens of Versailles, it is part of a rustic retreat (sort of a Disneyland à la 18th century) which was built in 1783 for Marie Antoinette. It represents a fantasy-like hamlet, with various building, a model farm, pond, grotto, etc. Just what was needed, when the Queen wanted to spend some private time with her closest friends. The place was abandoned after the French Revolution and reopened in the 90's for the public. It is quite a contrast to the main palace ... and much less crowded.

Walking around the Grand Canal we detected for the first time where the Versailles Rowing Club is located. I have only heard of it before, and the fact that every 2 years there is a regatta on the Grand Canal belonging to the Gardens of Versailles. Anyway, the 'royal pond' has a length of 1'500 meters.
