more movement: the path without, the path within
Off for a wet walk along the Clyde. There was a brief brightening of sunshine through the vexed sky and it dazzled the freshly laid tarmac of the path into town. The wet sheen suddenly reflected the surroundings.
When this happens I always get an 'Alice Through the Looking Glass' moment of another, hidden vista appearing. It wasn't there before the sun broke through, now there it is this mirror to the surroundings. So, I took the picture and immediately wanted to pick up on yesterday's entry about movement.
There was a thread to my meanderings yesterday about having physical movement, yet internal stasis. The opposite can also be said of having physical confinement and limitless internal freedom. Without is the realm of the senses, within is ..what? How we process the sensory information?
Is the path within really just a remembrance of what we've experienced?
Are we really just fancypants fleshy processing units?
We live in a largely Atheist country. Scientific method seems to trump all other ways of putting together our brief time here in this infinitesimally wee speck of Universe we inhabit. Science has rigour. It is testable, results can be replicated. Yet, for me, what it is testing is the limits of human knowledge.
If we want to put ourselves at the very centre of this unimaginably immense Universe and say that what we know, and can only put together using the tools we're born with, is all there is to know then Science does seem to debunk everything. Yet, lets say there is a movement and the light illuminates us within, what is to be made of this?
Personally speaking, I've found Mindfulness a great liberating experience. It's about letting go. I can be a smart arse. I think I know everything. I think I know the way the world operates. Yet, letting go of this, shall we say over-developed sense of Self, has been liberating. The world without still spins, yet the world within suddenly reveals a deeper connection with it - rather than alienation- due to this shift in light that is illuminating.
So, the movement without can be just physical movement without movement within. Movement within can be alienatingly literal without the light that reflects the movement without. Whether or not this Light needs a name is a whole other hulapalooza.
Okay, enough of chasing rabbits down holes. Time to move my arse and get the dishes done.
Onwards!
