'Up's & Downs'
A day of contrasts today.
We woke this morning to find out littlest guinea pig didn't make it through the night, it seemed just to weak and frail in comparison to the other two. MsMun had a little burial for it next to our feijoa tree.
We then dropped the kids around to Ahma's house while MsMun and I headed into town to have a look at a couple of exhibitions at the NGV. Firstly a William Blake exhibition of a series of etchings, watercolours with pen & ink drawings and artwork from the early 19th century. Sounds a fascinating extreme person which shows in his very religious works.
Then we headed over to the Ian Potter Centre at Fed Square to look at an exhibition by a young New Zealand artist Julia DeVille who moved over to Melbourne in 2001.
She studied as a Silver & Goldsmith at NMIT and completed a mentorship with expert taxidermist Rudy Mineur. She also has a fascination with moment moro traditions of the fifteenth to eighteenth century and Victorian mourning jewellery.
She manages to mix all of her skills and interests to create these bizarre (some would say macabre) installations. Personally I found her work fascinating. This is one of the more tame pieces of her work.
I've just added a link HERE to anyone who's interested in seeing more of her work, but I must warn you they're not for the faint hearted and fairly confronting. Don't look if you think you'll be offended.
Back to Ahma's house for a nice Cambodian lunch to celebrate ancestors day, then a quick visit to the Apple store at Doncaster to see if they could fix MsMuns iPhone before getting home late in the afternoon. And no they couldn't fix it and it has to be replaced if she wants her wi-fi to work. Ggggrrrr Apple.
Daylight savings ended for us last night too, so it's now just gone 7pm and it's totally dark. Let's see if this will help get the kids into bed a bit earlier tonight.
