Would you risk this lane in a car?

Short caption:-Is this sign really needed. It made me laugh. Would you go this way?

Long caption:-
We went to a party this afternoon at a house in Stonehorse Lane near Rochester. The lane became a lovely quiet cul de sac after it was severed by the B289 by-pass in 1998. I am guessing this sign was put up 15 years ago to stop vehicles zooming through and ending up on the by pass.
By 2014 the sign looks quite redundant, which is what caught my eye. Would you risk driving down here?. If you are interested you can see more clearly on the map
