At home: Hatching eggs....
A mixure of eggs in the incubator this month. A exciting bit of a hatching hopefully. Our call ducks have been busy laying, so at least 4 of these eggs are call ducklings hopefully. The chances of going from egg to duckling or chick isn't always a smooth one. Theres lots that can go wrong in between.
The humidity for the duck is higher than that for the hen. I dont suppose that it matters for a chick whether its higher rather than lower, but I am guessing it matters the other way around. You see, the duck egg being thicker and more dense would mean that the chick may not be able to get through its own hard shell.
In a natural situation the duck would be naturally wetting the eggs. The call duck is in my experience a hopeless mother. It sits undecidedly on its eggs. Its a restless mother. The danger is that it leaves the eggs half way through the incubation and leaves the chicks to die in the shells. The best thing is to try and hatch in an incubator. I have had some good success in the past..... so here goes..... I will keep you posted....x
