Bowen Queen

The Bowen Queen has been docked down at Fulford for awhile now, and I wonder if the regular ferry will be going out for refit soon. I like that there's a little glimpse of the road up to Ganges through the opening in the ferry. Then there are reflections - and some rust!
I've spent a lot of hours in line ups for ferries and riding on them. When we lived up north, we had to take a ferry across a huge lake to go into town to get groceries and other necessities, to do laundry, and to take kids to sporting competitions - as well as to take in some night life ourselves every now and then. We went to university in Victoria so we had to take the ferry to the mainland to visit family. Then when we moved to Salt Spring in 1992, we both commuted by ferry to work for many years, G to Victoria and me to Duncan. I reckon that BC Ferries should supply us with our own ferry after all the money they've made off us - or at least name a ferry after us!
This makes me think of our dependence on cars too, because we've never lived anywhere where we could walk to conveniences like grocery stores or banks or to work. Transit systems have either been non-existent or had schedules that didn't work for us or weren't close enough to where we lived or where we were going. Amazing.
