Shock
A fine day of work, finally sending a project off to a client. When Fred came home, we felt that we deserved to go out for a meal so we headed up to Crystal Palace and treated ourselves to a yummy Thai meal. We blethered away the evening over coconut rice, Pad Thai and sweetcorn cakes. Fred noticed that he'd missed a couple of calls from Aberdeen, which was odd as we know only a couple of friends in Aberdeen and it was neither of their numbers. When waiting for the train at Gypsy Hill, I took this random shot.
Once home, I put the kettle on. Then I heard Fred's voice from the front room - he was talking on the phone, but he didn't sound right. While we'd been working, eating, chatting, his mum had suffered a heart attack, been flown to Aberdeen for emergency surgery, but had died around 10pm. Our brains couldn't take it in - complete shock. Nothing prepares you for this inevitable part of life. Nothing can. it didn't seem real, just an incredible nightmare that we'd wake up from.
