Memeorial Church
Boy I could spit tin tacks I had just written all the history of this building when Blipfoto went off and I lost the lot.
As a marriage celebrant I am taking a wedding in this building tomorrow. A really lovely young couple who farm a bit further up the road. I have known the brides family forever so it is a real privilege to be doing this.
This church won the architects prize for NZ in 1931. It was gifted to the area by a family in honour of their parents and all the men who had worked on all the stations around since 1850. The acreage and original owners of them all is carved in stone around the church. The church is made out of local stone, not a nail in it, pews carved out of beautiful native timber, the font is the hub of an old dray wheel, the pulpit is truly beautiful carved out of native highly polished timber.
It is an interdenominational church run by a trust but administered by our parish.
