Voussoir

Just back from an early pizza and a serious catch up with my friend Margaret. We've put the world to right, sorted out a few issues, and had a good laugh. Life can be very strange, we both agreed.
This intriguing little head is a voussoir, a carved stone which would once have been part of an arch. It, and a few pieces of jumbled masonry made into an altar, is all that remains of Bantry Abbey, founded in the 15C and long since plundered. In it's place is a large cemetery on a hill with fantastic views down the bay towards the town. He's been cemented into a wall and there's a bench in front of him, the back suitably cut so you can see him. I rather like him. And the word voussoir is very satisfactory.
