Roadblock

First thing this morning I got a call from mum who goes a similar way to work as us. She said something big was going on and the road was blocked from the end of our street to two blocks away with police everywhere. Immediately I wished I was out of bed already to beat the traffic. We live in an area with an unbelievably small number of through streets and the detour around would have to be easily 5km out of the way for motorists.

I had a look out windows either side of the house and could see the build up across the park on one side and on the street on the other. When we got to the top of our gate it was at a standstill both ways. We needed to turn right and luckily some people took pity on us and let us in. 20 mins later we were 500m down the road at the first of the blocked off intersections. There was a police block, the traffic lights were turned off and a policeman was directing traffic. Scary stuff. When I got to work I found out a cyclist had died after being hit by a truck. I don't like things like that so close to home. It makes it all a bit real.
Puts your own problems into perspective, like my failed warrant that's costing $420. I'm not happy about it but I think I can deal with that as long as I'm still here to do so.
