First Planting

The brown bag in the lower right corner has been planted with potatoes. Most other things are too susceptible to the frosty knights we are yet to have.
We moved the garden proper all the way back to the six foot fence that separates our yard from the neighbor's. Mostly we did it to block the dog from being able to dig out under the fence at least in that area.
Does anyone out here know of a food crop that doesn't take up much space and tolerates limited sun?
