Les Mis
After yesterday's show and a very late night, and a full day at work (on 1.4.14), I came home briefly to have a 15 minute nap and some homemade carrot soup and then head out to Dubai English Speaking College who (very bravely) took on the challenge to perform the school version of Les Miserable!! [Gs Saturday student is in it.]
I had my reservations on what this could be like, but have to say - I was totally blown away by the quality of the production. Their very own orchestra, kids from 12-18 sang all the songs, the costumes and make up were fantastic, the sound was perfect AND we were told at the end that the lead part (Jean Valjean) was played by a student who a few weeks earlier, had won the Gulf Student Singing Talent Contest. There you go. A lady called Wendy (sorry forgot her surname) who is an opera singer and has long associations with the BBC said it was the best school production of Les Mis that she had seen.
That was the evening. Didn't leave till 10:30 so another late night. We are out again tomorrow night, but not for a show. Phew. And my lovely colleagues Shelina and Zu kept two seats for us, which meant that after missing our turn and driving 14km the wrong way, we still got there and sat down just before the show started!
Large is best
