Augusta, The Dowager Princess of Wales
Isn't it amazing, how educational Blip can be?
This huge column is in the gardens of Mount Stuart House. It is dedicated to Augusta the Dowager Princess of Wales. She never became a Queen as her husband died before his Father so her son George 3rd became King. She was not popular as she was suspected of having an affair with the 3rd Marquis of Bute who was a tutor for her son. They were both involved in establishing Kew Gardens as we know it today. After her death, the 3rd Marquis had this column installed in Kew but later it was removed to Mount Stuart, where it has a prominent position.
I should have put this on yesterday but I had to do a bit of research first!!!
This is the last of my Bute photos but I shall be back!
