Epitaph, by Sir Walter Raleigh
Lent, Day 23
Even such is Time, which takes in trust
Our youth, our joys, and all we have,
And pays us but with age and dust;
Who in the dark and silent grave,
When we have wandered all our ways,
Shuts up the story of our days:
And from which earth, and grave, and dust,
The Lord shall raise me up, I trust.
There was a load of deep stuff I was going to say about this, and about wandering around a cemetery, in the midst of preparing for my Mum's funeral, but our student son has just got us irresponsibly sitting around, after a busy day, drinking a good Rioja and putting the world to rights, so all I have to say, is good-night everyone, and love life while you have it!
And really hope you sleep well.
