Life of Helga

Old war relics

This is an old searchlight house from the WWII. The lights were used to light up ships in the night so it would be easy to identify them as friends or foes. Friendly ships were to show special flags at day and light signals at night, that had been decided each day. At least twice during the occupation Icelandic ships forgot to follow those instructions and were rewarded with a warning shot. No friendly ships where though sunk because of this tardiness.
