Welcome to the historic and scenic town of Dumfries. Here is the view that greets you as you pass from the main car park past Burns' memorial garden and the historic Globe public house. Yes that really is the town's ancient High Street (and main shopping street) you are about to step into, and if you can avoid the pigeon droppings and electrocution while attempting to read the sign, which looks to be as old as Burns himself, guiding you back to the car park, you will have realised that first impressions were indeed correct.
