March 31st 2009 - PUSH!

We woke early today to get on the road for our long bus journey back to Quito. It was a long, slow journey without much excitement until the bus ran out of fuel. That’s right, the driver forgot to top up the tank. We had to push the bus to the side of the road (making for our blip) and wait for more fuel to arrive. I then had to hold the tank for the driver as he refilled, and to top of his competence he then managed to get petrol all over me too! We refilled enough to get to a service station, although not soon after leaving there we managed to break down again and so we took a public bus the rest of the way. In total it was 16 hours of travelling and when we got to Quito it was time for a burger and then to settle into my room with the ‘Internationals’ for the first time in a long time.
