Guatavita with Maciel and Alvero

Maciel and Alvero are the couple who have invited us home for lunch both Sunday's we have been here. They are incredibly kind and invited us to visit lake Guatavita with them on Monday, which was a public holiday. In Colombia, when someone invites you, it means they are offering to pay for everything, which is really against British culture and we felt so bad that they paid for our entrance tickets and lunch, on top of the petrol and road tolls involved in the 2 hour journey to Guatavita. Maciel and Alvero have really blessed us with their hospitality and I have been inspired by them to take this aspect of Colombian culture home with me.
The lake is really important in the legend of Guatavita, and the new town of that name is really pretty and it was such a perfect day out.
