Slioch

It was a lovely day in the Poolewe area today. I was working at place called Naast.

While I have been back working in Wester Ross several times since our brilliant Easter holiday last year today was notable because the hills, air quality and hues were very similar to last Easter, just a week later than this visit. I drove past the starting points of many of our walks around Loch Maree.

I am always annoyed at myself for taking a road side shot. I actually saw someone on Loch Ness side with one foot still inside the car taking a photo. When I stopped at Loch Maree side on the way home I put slightly more effort in than that; may be a hundred yards across heathery moorland to this boulder field. The stop was combined with a very late brief lunch break. I have blipped a similar view previously and I was hoping that low light may cast attractive contrast on to the rocks. There was a long drive after lunch so I didn’t have time to deliberate over the shot.
Slioch is a big mountain, over 3000 feet, and I was surprised that you had to look really hard to see some remaining snow in shadowy gullies. The north side of the big Lochaber hills remain under near blanket coverage.
