Fill Your Face Friday at the school i work at today, and every Friday. This week it was the turn of the SEN department and the theme was Easter. The cake that is being cut ( bottom right hand corner ) had a religious origins. Apparently it is a Simnel Cake which is a symbolic Easter cake, 11 marzipan balls are placed around the circular marzipan coated cake to signify the 11 disciples, although there were 12 apostles of Jesus Christ, however Judas betrayed him and then hung himself with remorse and so is omitted. Some cakes have a larger figure or ball in the centre to signify Jesus, according to the lovely TA who made the cake :-)
