Saltwater

Today we had the most bizarre experience. I thought the Blue Lagoon was a naturally occurring hot water spring surrounded by beautiful landscape.

Wrong

It is the waste superheated seawater from a geothermal electricity generating plant which having cooled, is pumped into a man made outdoor swimming pool. It is surrounded by an industrial power station, in the middle of a volcanic crater, surrounded by boulders of cinder and ancient lava, and with steam pouring forth from tall chimneys. It was actually snowing when we were there.

And it is fantastic.

Bath heat, soothing and salty with great big tubs of mineral gloop to slather on your skin. You come out feeling so clean and glowing.

The salty minerally stuff is almost impossible to wash out of your hair though, so today I am having a major bad hair day.
