Several weeks ago, Paul here graciously gifted us with an enlargement from a print he made from his Europe trip last year. It was a black and white film shot of the Eiffel Tower through a window of his apartment there, framed by curtains and a vintage landline phone (I learned he shot it with an inexpensive documentation style of film, the kind used in archiving of things, so the grain really comes through). Let me back up: Paul and I met coincidentally on the plane coming back from that Paris trip, where he was scouting locations for a photography class he was assisting to teach. We sat next to each other, struck up a conversation, realizing our mutual acquaintances and mutual interests. Moving forward: after a recent art show, Paul surprised us with the aforementioned Tower picture, which he had on display there, as an anniversary gift for Leah and I. Last night, we finally got to return the gift with a Parisian window shot of our own, so I met him up at Zio's to give him our framed, enlarged version: une fenêtre pour une fenêtre.
