Feeding chickens
Spent almost all day feeding the chickens. They enjoyed it, I less so. My priority was to get all the horrible perennial weed roots out of a neglected bed, the chickens concentrated on decimating the worm population.
Late afternoon Angie discovered a used chicken nesting box being given away. All our boxes are home made but this one was from the best known manufacturers with automatic entry barring and egg disappearing hole. I had always wanted to try one out but they are pretty expensive. So drove the 20km over to the farm in Obergünzburg to pick it up. It's not in the best of conditions but should be able to get it fully functional with a few nails & screws. While I was driving there, Angie phoned to say she had discovered a bathroom wash basin, identical to ours in the upstairs bathroom being given away. Ours is broken - some months ago a perfume bottle dropped on the basin and made a large hole in it (shortly after that one of the cupboard mirrors above it fell off it's hinges and instead of making another hole, the mirror broke!).
We kept wanting to replace it but not easy - our upstairs bathroom is a Grade 1 listed room - 1970's Villeroy & Boch Avocado Green suite with matching beige background tiles with painted brown, green, orange flowers. We have had to put a notice on the front gate informing people we only have guided tours once a year on 31st June. Until such time as we can find the odd 10,000 Euros to bribe someone to redo the room, it will remain a museum piece.
So I then headed further south to Kraftisried to pick it up. It was almost identical but must be V&B Mark II design - identical to ours but with a small indent for a bar of soap. Charming, very "homely" young lady - blonde dreadlocks and bits of silver in nose, ear, teeth, tongue and probably other areas. She thought it might be very early 80's, hence the more modern design. She would have liked me to take the bath tub & bidet but as I only had the small car and both our bidet & tub are in tact, I said I would check with Angie and let her know.
The Blip taken with the mobile phone, out of the car, shortly before Kraftisried. Alps again white after the weekend's snow. So busy driving and Bliping that I nearly oversaw the halted truck ahead of me with his warning lights on!
Kraftisried is the site of the regions "farm animal corpse incinerator" - Our dear old trusty horse Nero was taken here after we had him put to sleep in 2005 as he was in severe pain. His long time pal Asyr turns 29 in June and no doubt will also follow but for now he seems fit and happy. Long may it remain so.
Tomorrow will not be installing the wash basin - spring has returned and the garden will remain priority #1 and although less than 9 months until Christmas, I am not reckoning on needing to wash before then - pool should suffice for the voluntary birthday wash in September.
