Gianni Berengo Gardin

One of the true greats of Italian photography!

I got to see him while attending an organized meeting of another great italian photographer Francesco Zizola who I should say is instead a photoreporter. He has followed many of the human disasters after wars and political upheavals during the last 30 years. Great to listen to a very articulate man give his view on the world and recount his story and why he is compelled to take difficult pictures.

Great moment tonight as he defined the difference between a photographer and photoreporter - the later who always shoots pictures with ethics. Some of his pictures are indeed hard to look at, but as he said the young today need to all take formal training in visual reading - given that there are probably more cameras in the world now than people (albeit for major part by cell phone).

Hopefully I will attend an event hosted by Mr. Gardin in a few weeks. Should be interesting to get his view on the world too!

Lol, I suppose I should have included a picture of Mr. Zizola instead of Mr. Gardin... oops.
