The King's Knot

"Gee, is that one of those ancient burial grounds?" was the question posed by an American visitor to Stirling Castle today on spotting this outline below the castle walls.

Hated to disillusion them, but it's actually called "The King's Knot" and is the outline of a knot garden first laid in the 1600s. It would have been a mass of colourful plants arranged in tiers for the enjoyment of the King and his visitors.

A friend and I had visited the Castle to take photographs for our U3A class and we couldn't have chosen a better day, with wall to wall sunshine and very few visitors. We were able to watch one of the talented weavers working on the final (7th) panel in the Unicorn Tapestries series and admire the other six already hanging on the walls.

Hope you all enjoyed the sunshine too:-)
