The Bonapartes

The small, delicate Bonaparte's Gulls seem to be finding something to eat in the surf. Mr. Ring-billed Gull, on the left, is studying their fishing technique.

The gull is named after a nephew of Napoleon, Charles Lucien Bonaparte, who was a leading 19th-century ornithologist.
