The Mother Bear project
I like to knit when watching TV, (so I don’t feel like I’m wasting time...). A cousin showed me the bears she knit to send to Africa for kids affected with AIDS. A good way to use up bits of yarn thinks I. So I sent for the pattern and made the first bear with colors from a hat I knit for me (brown) and a hat (green, tourquoise) for Tatum. They’re about 12” high. It took longer than I thought it would (I don’t watch that much TV)
Fiona was over here one day and said “Oh a cat! Can you make me one?” (I always do what she asks! :-) ) so she went to my yarn drawer and picked out the pink, blue and white leftovers. ... Could be a cat, I suppose, but needs a tail.
Last night H and I were watching reruns of The West Wing. He thinks I don’t watch, but just sit with him and knit. Well, I DID watch..I love that show ...and when I looked at the ‘cat’ I saw that I had just put the yarn nose and mouth on the backside! H got to laughing so hard!!! (think about it...) Just what he needed for some hilarity for the day.
So I then switched the tail to the other side. :-)
You can read about The Mother Bear project HERE. I think it is very worthwhile and quite fun -I’ll make some more…(perhaps a bit more creative! ) Maybe this will appeal to some knitter out there ...My cousin in California usually looks at the blips so she’ll be surprised I think.
