Overnighter
The London coach to Inverness makes a late evening stop at Port Appin Hotel. The driver in the Austin A40 waits to collect a local whilst four tired travellers make their way into the hotel. They'll be on the first ferry in the morning to Islay.
The coach is a new one to Port Appin converted from a toy by modeller Bill Day to a replica of an actual coach that belonged to W Alexander & Sons of Falkirk. In the 1960's the Alexander Y type body was regarded as the epitome of long distance luxury coaching.
For those interested in such things, Bill took the metal model and made a staggered cut 2.4 cms from the middle then carefully matched up the two sections to make a 30 foot coach from a 36 foot version making sure that all window lengths were equally represented.
