La Salle de Bains

My brother-in-law owns a section of farmland adjacent to ours in the Megalong Valley. This is his bathroom.

Well, he does actually have an indoor bathroom as well and at this stage I am rather lost for words as to how to describe the reason for this outdoor set up.
See LARGE for more detail.

I understand it has been used for less gentile functions and in particular that unique male event known in Australia as the "buck's party" - a bridegroom's pre-wedding event for a final bonding session with his mates.

There is a hole under the baths for a fire to heat the water and the corrugated iron "chimney" is to divert the smoke. Cast iron baths are necessary as cheaper models can result in burns to delicate areas.

The wooden planks provide seating for the non-bathing guests and I have heard that liquid refreshments are consumed in ample amounts.

All this is hearsay as I have never been present on one of these occasions.
