Always the Sea

Train

On the train from Kendal to London for funeral tomorrow. There's something very soothing about travelling at night; it's quite other worldly seeing the dark go by.
This is the first time in 25 years I've been on a train that wasn't either the Eurostar or that squalid farce of a commuter service operated by South Eastern (or whatever they're calling themselves these days). The train has got a proper shop, too, which is the most exciting thing to have happened in retail since M&S opened in motorway service stations.
I bought myself some wine and some crisps and I'm reading an excellent book - Do No Harm, stories of life, death and brain surgery by Henry Marsh. A terrific read, I thoroughly recommend it.
