La vida de Annie

By Annie

Timmy...

.... is the much-loved pet of my friend S, the one I accompanied to the Magic Mirror Ball last week. He's 16 now and is blind in one eye and can barely walk, which is sad to see as when he was a young dog he would chase mine around the park at something approaching the speed of sound.

S and her sister (a vet) agree that he still has quality of life, as he is still eating, taking interest in his surroundings and behaving much as normal despite the lameness. They also agree that his time is probably limited and are prepared to take the necessary step should his time come. S is really upset about this and is hoping he will at least spend a last Christmas with them.

Added to this are serious illnesses in the family and a highly stressful job, so S is having a hard time just now. All I have been able to do for her today are her washing-up (while she was phoning clients) and to take her to lunch and some Christmas shopping. She did seem a lot more relaxed afterwards though. Sometimes just the little things make a big difference; I know they do for me.
