Diary of an Edinburgher

The Boiler Man Cometh. Five months late.

Well, that was almost worth waiting for! The Home Comfort Boiler Man came today. Only five months after we moved in and first requested an initial inspection, but hey - some things take time.

A charming chap, who politely listened to my (condensed) complaints and set to checking the boiler. Turns out, for an old boiler, it’s in pretty good nick. With excellent CO (ppm) and lots of other good % figures. Well, the chap was pleased anyway. I queried why (some of) the radiators go off after an hour and he concluded they don’t need bleeding or swishing out - just new thermostats. And he suggested a wifi thermostat control. I had no idea you could get one for an old boiler. Brilliant!

At ping pong today I played with she-who-chooses-who-to-play-with … though I think it was an accident. I also played with Maureen (not her real name, of course) who just stands there, in the middle and often bats back the ball even if it’s not her turn. Funny that I actually played with Maureen THREE times…

When we were in Bordeaux a couple of years ago, we loved their trams. In Bordeaux there are no visible poles and wires to do with the trams - it was all put underground so as not to despoil the World Heritage Site. Edinburgh is also a World Heritage Site. Oor Cooncil did not put the wires underground. This used to be a great view from Princes Street up to Calton Hill.

This morning I eventually tracked down a puppy breeder not too far away. At the moment she is just a twinkle in her father’s eye, and will be born in May. Or available in May… not sure - I was so excited I didn’t listen. We will arrange to go and meet the (doggie) parents soon! A summer puppy. Much better than the house swap that came in today - though some might think a Caribbean Island - and the house swapper owners are Chocolatiers - should NOT be passed up.

That visit to Pets R Us for dog toys is imminent...
