Batik Tree

I haven't been able to uncover the official name for this amazing tree, but meet the batik tree. It grows like this (I know, right?) and locals strip the bark down to reveal these incredible designs. They carve out little candle holders, vases, glasses, etc. and sell them to passing tourists. At first I thought the designs were burned into the wood, but we watched them take a fresh tree and create these masterpieces. So wild!
