Jedburgh

A day of sights and family. After a great wedding yesterday and a sleep in this morning, longer than intended, we wandered round Knaresborough for some final views. The castle reflected the morning sun as did the flower beds planted out with bicycles picked out in red. Something to do with the Tour de France later on this year!

Then back north with dramatic skies and hail storms before reaching Jedburgh where we stopped for coffee and a visit to the Abbey. The afternoon light picked out the columns nicely so, despite fierce competition, this is today's blip.

My step-aunt who is now in her 80s recalls not only punting on the Nidd at Knaresborough but also in her youth often visiting her uncle - Ebenezer Robison - at Jedburgh where he was the County Sheriff. ( They don't christen children like that any more!). In his official capacity he had access to Queen Mary's House so my step- aunt recalls going to play in the grounds. (They don't allow access like that any more!)

She grew up closely with my much missed late father who would have been 90 today. So Jedburgh has added significance as today's blip.
