A jaguar in wolf's clothing
Up at 6, on the road 6.50, a quick run up the hill and on the tee at 9 am. Two friendlies running parallel today, the monthly “Friendship Cup”, and the “Amigo da Onça” (Friend of the Jaguar - play on a Brazilian expression actually used for a false friend). The sponsor’s maiden name was Mendonça, hence the ‘Onça’ and her married name is Wolff. As our ex-captain pointed out, a strange case of a jaguar becoming a wolf.
Anyway, the golf was followed by lunch and a cake to celebrate the couple’s birthdays and their 55th wedding anniversary. It was such a happy occasion and we all laughed such a lot that I have to post a shot of them, even though it’s a bit blurred. They’re quite a pair and have both written books about their adventures. I played today with the husband and he gave me a copy of his book before we started, and I won the wife’s book as a prize – for coming last of the ladies (well, there were only three four of us…..). The other player in our group, Jorge, was also taking photos, so I introduced him to the blip site later on - I hope he's going to join us.
The ‘Jaguar’ competition was only nine holes, so I told my knee to shut up and let me play. If it managed two hours round cobbled streets yesterday, a golf course ought to be easy going. It behaved quite well and we got in just before the rain (very welcome after all this heat, at least of those of us already in the clubhouse).
