A very interesting fellow, was Charles.

Very much a man of his time - but a man for all times, you could also say. Why, I suppose the fact that you still read his stories makes that point very well.

And tell me, are you familiar with one of his Christmas stories? A Christmas Carol, I believe it's called.

Scrooge, yes. That's the name of the chap in the story. Edward? Ezekiel? No, Ebenezer. Ebenezer Scrooge. That's the fellow.

Ah, you've not read the book itself? You do surprise me; it's not long - why, a person might read it over the course of a few evenings.

Oh, you know Scrooge from the movies. I forget, moving pictures are very popular, are they not? But no matter; you're familiar with the story, I take it. The story of a man who learns to love the world and his fellow man once more.

A marvellous story, to soften the hardest heart.

Especially if you ever heard Mr Dickens reading it himself.
