Who's That Girl

Tonight we attended the preview of the first public exhibition in the Reid Gallery of The Glasgow School of Art. Caesura by Heaven Baek, Briggs & Cole, Raydale Dower is on until the 4 May 2014.

In response to the new Reid Building, GSA Sound for the Moving Image graduate, Raydale Dower has brought together artworks and archive material from collections as reference points for new work including a sound installation that will respond to movement within the gallery. Collectively these works explore associations between sculptural and sonic form, with Dower's research drawing on three examples: the work of the Russian sculptor, Naum Gabo (1890-1977); the oscilloscope patterns of Ben Laposky (1914-2000, USA mathematician and artist) and Le Corbusier’s collaboration with composers Iannis Xenakis and Edgard Varèse, Poème électronique for the Philips Pavillion (designed for the 1958 World’s Fair). Gabo’s Linear Construction No. 1 (1942-43) is on loan from The Pier Arts Centre Collection, Orkney.

While I was taking a few photographs of Gabo’s Linear Construction No. 1 this mysterious woman appeared in my shot. I liked her look and how other people were reflected in the glass cabinet.

After taking in the exhibition we headed over to the Hanoi Bike Shop in Byres Road. Vietnamese food is one of my favourites, so I was keen to see how good it was. The place is quirky and the service is friendly and enthusiastic. For drinks I had a Hanoi beer and M was recommended the Gin Cocktail. She was not disappointed. On the menu we shared the special Monkfish cheeks and the beef dish. Both were delicious and made your taste buds sing with all the fresh flavours. Beware of the chilli and lemongrass condiment that is on the table. It is really Hot. To finish we had a ginger panna cotta and ice cream.

We can’t wait to go back and try some of the other dishes on the menu. This place has definitely brought something new and interesting to Glasgow, and is high up on my new favourite places to eat.
