Oystercatchers
Oystercatchers are wading birds that get most of their food from the shoreline at low tide. Despite their name their favourite foods are cockles, which they prise open with their stout long bills, and mussels which they smash to reach the meat within. If they depended on oysters then they would die within the week hereabouts! When the tide is in they often head off to the fields and use their versatile bills to dig for earthworms.
