The flowers that bloom in the spring Tra la….

The front garden at Braehead House this afternoon is in most respects spring like…save perhaps the heavy clouds bringing more rain I fear.

As I gazed on the daffodils and heathers I was reminded of a song from The Mikado. I played the part of Pooh Bah in The Mikado decades ago at Carrick Academy in Ayrshire, but it was a Nanki-Poo song that came to mind -

The flowers that bloom in the spring,
Tra la,
Breathe promise of merry sunshine —
As we merrily dance and we sing,
Tra la,
We welcome the hope that they bring,
Tra la,
Of a summer of roses and wine,
Of a summer of roses and wine.

A summer of roses and wine. Now wouldn't that be good!
