The wrong road

I'm getting up much earlier nowadays so that the company can wring even more hours out of me.
This means that I hit the town at the height of the rush hour.
Last week it took 12 minutes to get to work.
This week it takes 28 minutes.

The road ahead is the route to work.
The road on the left is empty.
Perhaps I should turn left and just keep going.

..although I'd probably end up in Stockport.
