If a tree falls

This reminds me of the philosophical question "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is there, does it make a sound?" Maybe this could be rephrased as "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is there, can it be seen?"

Actually, I was there, but I still can't quite figure out which part broke off of what. This was in a nearby woods (beyond the no trespassing chain, I'm afraid) after recent rains caused quite a number of trees to fall.
