A new Dental Nurse for TLC #Cambodia

Our local partner, the Lake Clinic, otherwise known as TLC, is a primary healthcare service which is taken by boat to floating villages on the vast Tonlé Sap Lake to the north-west of Cambodia.

TLC have recently welcomed a new member to the team - a Dental Nurse - who they are very excited to have on board. She has been with them since October and will be helping them to challenge the problems surrounding oral health.

Unlike the Western world, tooth decay and dental problems do not arise from sugar induced diets. Instead it is a lack of knowledge about the benefits of oral health and the fact that there is no access to dental care which are the main problems. However, this is now something TLC and their new Dental Nurse are ready to start combatting.

TLC told us "Our new dental nurse will also make a big difference. Dentistry is one of the main issues out on the lake. There is no knowledge about teeth care and in some villages it’s heart-breaking to see the black smiles of the children… It will probably take some time to start to change the behaviour but with a dental professional with our team, we can start to educate and to cure."
