It's Skiing Jim, But Not As We Know It!
Back blipped on 20/03/2014.
As soon as the glaring, warm sunshine struck our tired eyes through the tinted coach windows, emerging over the Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France, we knew we had arrived in Brides Les Bain for another Last of the Summer Wine skiing trip.
It was a glorious first day up on the slopes of Meribel & a great laugh back at our base camp in Bride. We've never seen warmer or more stunning weather up on the mountain - it was warming up as soon as we begun our 8-mile cable car ascent from the 1992 Winter Olympics village, & a lot brighter & toaster once we'd arrived at the foot of the slopes. Although all weary from the 12 hour coach journey the night before, the refreshing air & beautiful, clear & crisp scenery give you the perfect boost to keep you rocking all day long.
Jon, Dad, Scott, Pete, George, Geoff, Hayden, Willow & me (behind the lense) enjoy a giraffe of beer & some croque monsuers for a late lunch.
Later on, skied out & very much in need of refreshment, down at the Meribar, we delved into bowls of nachos & some cold bevvies.
Later still, with a three course dinner filling our bellies, merry & very tired from a long day, a number of our party (shall I say, some of our more senior members) retired to their rooms, while Scott, Willow & myself ventured into town for a cheeky half at a bar, & then somewhat inevitably (after minimal persuasion from Scott on Will) we entered the casino.
I couldn't possibly comment on the fortunes of my fellow gamblers at the roulette table, but for myself, only betting with a cautious 10 euros, I came away 18 euros up after a couple of hours play, so I can't complain.
What will the rest of the weekend hold in store!?!?
