View of Ship Canal ~ Salmon Bay
3/19/2014 ~ View of Ship Canal ~ Salmon Bay ~ from Magnolia Neighborhood across to Ballard Neighborhood, Seattle, WA
Early evening walk along W Commodore Way between the Ballard Locks and the Fisherman's Terminal. This photo taken at a spot along Salmon Bay with a breeze and chill in the air to go with the ever changing sky.
The Lake Washington Ship Canal, which runs through the city of Seattle, Washington, connects the fresh water body of Lake Washington with the salt water inland sea of Puget Sound. The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks accommodate the approximately 20-foot difference in water level between Lake Washington and the Sound. The Canal runs east/west, and connects Union Bay, the Montlake Cut, Portage Bay, Lake Union, the Fremont Cut, Salmon Bay, and Shilshole Bay, with the Sound, which empties into the Pacific Ocean,
The ship canal project began in 1911 and was officially completed in 1934. More information can be found here.
