The gift of music

Tonight we went to a friends and family concert given by the Baroque Community Orchestra in an old church close to where we live in Toronto.

This is a small group of musicians - 3 violins, 2 violas, 1 harpsichord (the subject of this picture) and a cellist. My friend Christine plays viola. I felt so lucky to know her and be part of the select group of people who were privilleged to be invited. They have so much joy in their music and they give it to us, the audience.

They played music by Purcell and other really obscure musicians of the 15-1600's. I could just imaging people 4 hundred years ago playing, dancing, singing and enjoying themselves as much as we were.

None of the pictures of the musicians turned out, but I liked this shot of the light playing over the harpsichord strings. Not candle light as it would have been, but still soft light and the rich colour of the wood.

Isn't it amazing how music can just wash away all of your worries!
